Peru
Fundación Runa is offering a new and unique opportunity for international students and researchers in Peru. We are constantly looking for new ways to sustainably develop the Amazon, and have recently formed a innovative partnership with Villa Carmen, a cutting edge research centre in the Manu Biosphere Reserve. The Manu Biosphere Reserve is a World Heritage Site and the largest protected National Park in Peru. It covers an astounding 18,811km² and is one of the most biodiverse parks in the world, home to over 15,000 species of plants, over 1000 species of birds and a diverse range of mammals including jaguars, pumas and giant armadillos!
Around 40% of the reserve is Amazonian Tropical Rainforest, but you will find a range of eco-systems across the 18,811km² with altitudes varying from 150m above sea level to 4200m. Manu Biosphere Reserve is one of the more remote national parsks, with limited accessibility by road.
Interns and volunteers will live and work within the cultural zone of the Manu Biosphere Reserve, at Villa Carmen. Villa Carmen is a cutting edge research centre and lies in the Konipata Valley, around 7 hours from Cusco in the upper Madre de Dios. We are looking for adventerous and natrue loving interns and volunteers to live in an incredibly beautiful but remote location - the only access to Villa Carmen is down a bumpy winding road!
Interns and researchers will take on projects to conserve virgin rainforest, develop sustainable agriculture techniques and work with surrounding communities to preserve the Amazon rainforest. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live in one of the most biodiverse areas on earth!
